Today's class will begin our unit on internet safety and digital citizenship. Technology class allows and encourages students to move into the world of the internet - and just like the physical world, students need to learn how to be safe, make good and informed choices, and avoid the things that aren't so pleasant in life. Throughout the year we will work as a class to understand how to be safe when on computers at school.... the hope is that they will bring the messages they learn in class home to share with their families, and that they will have the chance to show you what they are experiencing at school.

Activity
We will begin class with a reminder of what we learned about online safety and digital citizenship last year. We will then discuss our newest learning partners - the gang at NetSmartz Kids. To kick off the unit, we will take half of the class period to watch "Router's Birthday Surprise," a real treat because we almost never get to watch movies in Technology Class! We will wrap up with a discussion of what we learned, and perhaps a bit of dancing to the Know the Rules Rap.
Assessment
Today's class will not include a formal assessment. As always, students earn up to 5 points per class for on task and appropriate behavior. Informal assessment will take place in the form of a discussion of the video.
